This dark grey V10 Flannel Oxford of Veja has flannel on the side and front of the shoe and a light grey V. 15 plastic bottles are used to create a pair of sneakers. This upcycling process creates a smart fabric, both breathing and waterproof.
The comfortable sneaker shoe is made of low chrome leather and the sole is made of wild rubber from the Amazone forrest in Brazil. The 'V' on the side is also made of rubber and is a real Veja trademark.
The dark color is an easy one to combine with any color outfit. If you'll wear a good pair of jeans with it or a coloured chino it doesn't matter.. These shoes go with everything.
Born out of a desire for a new kind of fashion, French label Veja works with cooperatives of small producers and social associations in Brazil and France. Veja's awesome sneaker collections are made of organic cotton, low-chrome leather, natural rubber and amazing technical fabrics such as recycled polyester and hemp.
The Amazon is the only place on earth where rubber trees grow in the wild. The Amazonian rubber tappers live in the forest and harvest from the trees. The rubber is then used in the soles of Veja trainers.
The rubber tappers use a new technology developed by Professor Floriano Pastore of the University of Brasilia. This process, called FDL (Folha Desfumada Liquida – Liquid Smoked Sheet) allows the rubber tappers to transform latex into rubber sheets, without any industrial intermediary processes. The sheets of rubber are then directly sent to the factory and shaped into soles. This technology permits the Seringueiros to sell semi-finished products and receive a higher income.
