Taj is an Amsterdam lifestyle brand of sustainable jewelry with a story. Pure Dutch design, fair and handmade in their own workshop in Bali of recycled silver and gold. FAIR means that they pay their artisans a fair wage and make sure they work under safe circumstances within fair and healthy working-day hours. Also, Taj makes sure no children participate in the production process. The silver and gold comes from (i.a.) old jewelry, silverware (like forks, knives, spoons, bowls, plates) and candelabrums collected on the Indonesian islands of Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Papua. In addition to this being good for the people, using recycled silver and gold is good for the planet as well, for the environmental hazards of mining are undeniable.
Taj makes handmade jewelry. 'Handmade' means that no piece of jewelry is exactly alike. Taj doesn’t do mass production and you won't find hundreds of pieces of jewelry that look exactly the same. True craftsmanship, true art with charming flaws. Also Taj donates part of the revenue to charity and actively contributes to gender equality in Indonesia. They aim to employ as many underprivileged women as they can. Right now, mainly underprivileged married women work for Taj. They will however put their efforts into employing as many single women as they can.
