Studio JUX is a Dutch fashion label from Amsterdam. Founders Jitske and Carlien started their label Studio JUX in 2008 because they believe fashion should be fun and enjoyable for everyone; for the designers, the people working in factories and everyone wearing and using the products. Their name embodies this; ‘JUX’ literally means ‘fun’ or ‘having a laugh’ in German.
The Studio JUX collection is made in their own factory, women empowerment projects and social enterprises that are based in Kathmandu, Nepal. This means the label can ensure safe and healthy working conditions for their employees, maximise their social impact and minimise environmental impact at the same time. This also ensures that every single piece is handmade with love and dedication.
The handshake inside each Studio JUX garment connects you to the tailor who made it. All of their Nepali employees are rockstars, who they continually support. Being the owner of the factory, the label ensures that a studio JUX supervisor is present at the factory to guide and support the team.
Silk is produced from the chrysalis of silkworms and is a natural fiber. Commercially produced silk is not very environmental and animal friendly. Better alternatives are wild silk or organic silk, although costs are very high and quality of cultivated silk is still better. With wild silk the moth damages the silk cocoon when breaking out and with organic silk there are no fertilizers or pesticides used which affects the quality of the silk to a certain extent.
