The story and success of Danish menswear brand KnowledgeCotton Apparel began in 1969, when Jørgen Mørup, together with his father, opened a small textile company in the city of Herning. Since the beginning, the company has focused on sustainable principles. And at the end of the 1980s, Jørgen Mørup began working with organic cotton. In 2008, together with his son Mads Mørup, Jørgen Mørup founded KnowledgeCotton Apparel, a clothing line for men that uses eco-friendly textiles.
What makes organic cotton a better choice than conventional cotton? First of all, organic cotton doesn’t need chemical fertilizers and less water to grow. Secondly, when cotton is organically grown the land stays fertile for a much longer period of time than when conventional cotton is grown on that same field. Growing organic cotton has a positive effect on the lives, health and incomes of the farmers. And organic cotton is healthier for the wearer!
Linen is made from the flax plant and can grow without hardly any attention of chemicals and fertilizers, as long as water is available. It is said that bast fibers like linen grow well on land unsuitable for food production and may help to re-cultivate polluted soils.
